Barcelona is any shopper´s dream, with more than 35,000 shops to choose from. With stores ranging from unique boutiques to large department stores, Barcelona really does have it all. Shoppers wishing to stay on a budget can certainly find great deals scattered throughout the city, and should look for signs stating ´rebajas´in the window (this means Sales). For popular high street chain stores such as Zara, H&M and Mango, take a walk from Plaza Universitat towards el Barrio Gótico, making your way through the winding, bustling streets. Some of the best shopping can be found in the Barrio Gótico, Las Ramblas and the surrounding areas in the city centre, but there are also big shopping centres slightly further afield.

For those not on a budget (or fans of window-shopping), make sure to check out Passeig de Grácia, along which you will find all the big brand designer stores such as Chanel, Lacoste, Louis Vuitton, Versace and many more. From Las Ramblas all they way up to Passeig de Grácia there is shopping that suits everyone´s needs. In these areas there are also many cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy a break and stock up on some more shopping energy. Many of these restaurants offer outdoor dining, so it is a pleasent spot to do some people-watching also.

The large Spanish department store, El Corte Ingles, is a well known store with branches scattered all around the city. Here you can find anything that you may want, including clothes, appliances, food, cosmetics, homeware, you name it they have it. If you are looking for some local designs and independent boutiques, take a wander around Upper Raval and el Barrio Gótico (particularly El Born), for small, trendy and reasonably priced stores. Do not be surprised to see sex shops in these areas, as in Spain these are not so much of a taboo.

In the morning there are many markets that take place on different days of the week in different parts of the city. The markets offer the best prices in Barcelona, and are also good places to find souvenirs, quirky gifts, and one-off pieces. To find out when and where the markets take place, contact the Tourism Office or ask locals for advice on which markets to visit.
