From the 12th June to the 28th August 2009 has been taking place this years Mecal Air in the Poble Espanyol in Barcelona. Mecal Air has been created as a series of outdoor short film and sushi evenings by The International Short Film Festival of Barcelona called MECAL, and Poble Espanyol. It takes place every friday evenings from 20.00 to 24.00.
From tomorrow on there are only 3 times left in this year to enjoy an exclusive chill out area where you can lay back in a hammock whilst enjoying the entertainment and Japanese bites in the fresh air. There is always a bar and with each drink you get a free sushi or you can buy a whole variety.
In the district of Monjtuïc, Poble Espanyol lies just apart from the magic fountains. It is basically an open-air museum of architecture on the Monjtuïc mountain. El Poble Espanyol – The Spanish Village in Barcelona is an open air museum in Barcelona with 40 handicraft shops and a number of excellent restaurants and bars. Constructed in 1929 for the Barcelona International Exhibition, Josep Puig i Cadafalch, the famous modernist Catalan architect and designer, thought up the idea. Essentially meant to represent a town of architecture, culture from all around Spain and style, Poble Espanyol is just over 40,000m². That is around about 2500 times smaller than Barcelona city. Ideality was a predominant point in designing this museum, with a perspective on what an ideal Spanish village would look like, with the best and most traditionally spanish characteristics rolled into one to create this architectural wonder. Over 110 buildings line many streets and squares all produced to scale.
Today the Poble Espanyol is also used for events and festivals and What’s a better way to spend a summer night than short films and sushi under the stars in Barcelona?
The best way to reach the place is to take the bus number 13, 50 or 61 or the PM bus.
The perfect solution for a Sunday afternoon: craft market in Barceloneta. The exhibition has been showing since the 13th July 2009 and lasts till the end of September. In between this duration of time Barcelona’s inhabitants and visitors are able to amble along the craft market in Barcelona at Plaça de l’Odissea,in front of the Maremagnum shopping centre.
Being shown are the works of different craftsmen, carpenters, mosaic designers, ceramists, weavers, jewellers, glaziers, inlaid designers and many more. Craftsmen’s skills will be exhibited live every day at their stands and if you are searching for an exclusive souvenir or a small present for your family or friends go ahead and look at it. It is sure that all the stuff is 100% hand made and of a good quality as their products are all been certified as hand-made products by the Centre d’Artesania of the Generalitat de Catalunya. Every Sunday between 5pm and 8pm you have the chance to observe the crafts men and as each and everyone of them use their own skills. You can observe some different techniques how to make the products, and you can involve your children in some interesting workshop for children as well, held every Sunday afternoons.
Last weekend I went out of town with a friend of mine. Vic was our destination. We thought that Vic would be a cosy village, it sounded like this in my guide book, but we learned that Vic is the capital of Comarca Ausona. It is located about 70km north of Barcelona, at a height of approximately 484m above sea level and has about 38,964 inhabitants and an area of 30,92 kilometers².
The name of this historic city was Vich, identified in the prehistoric age of the place in the former Catalan spelling. The city has a neoclassical cathedral, many churches and many different markets.
By train, we set off from the Plaza Catalunya, which was unfortunately a bit confusing. Once there and “very well†equipped without a map, we found a city plan on the square outside the train station. Since there was no market shown on the map, I took the lead and off we went along the main street and we had success. At first we arrived at the market square, the Plaça Major. We were walking around and found some other markets. Mostly there were only clothes, fruit, toys and other things for everyday use but unfortunately no pottery products, which we would have liked to bring as souvenirs for our families. In a side street of the Plaça Major, we actually found a tourist information centre, which even had a city map for us.
We briefly paused and studied the map and allowed ourselves a nice cafe and some tapas. Fortified, we went into the 2nd round. As it was already after 1pm the markets were dismantled and calm was returning to the city. With hardly any people on the streets it was perfect to look at everything around there. We started with the old town hall and went on to numerous churches, convention houses and the cathedral. This impressive church´s interior almost made me faint as it is all in black and gold and it really moves you! That was not everything we saw there! Unfortunately, we could not see much from the inside, as the siesta was until 4pm and the tour had not yet resumed. The temple opens its doors only at 6pm and sadly we had to take our train back home at this time, because the journey is about 1,5 hours. Exhausted from all the impressions and experiences we went back towards Barcelona and thought that the trip had been well worth it!
A trip to Barcelona is not complete without a visit to La Boqueria on Las Ramblas. The Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, usually called as La Boqueria, is a large fresh produce market in Barcelona. The market has every fruit imaginable, as well as fresh juices, which are my favorite. They sell everything from vegtables, to eggs, fresh seafood, meat and candy.
All the fruits are beautifully colored it is even worth only to observe it. All the products are neatly displayed on the stands. The best time to go is during the morning, when all the stands are stocked with food. The market can be quite busy during the day and overcrowded, so make sure to watch your belongings. The food is reasonably priced and is actually cheaper than the super markets. The stands in the front are a bit more pricier than the stands in the back. There are also some restaurants in the market, they serve freshly prepared food with items from the market. The market dates back to 1217, when tables were installed nead the door of the city to sell meat. In 1470, pigs were sold at the market. However the market was not built and recognized until 1836-1840. Like most things in Barcelona, La Boqueria is closed on Sundays. The market is located on Las Ramblas infront of the metro stop Liceu (green line). For more information you can visit their website here.

Between the 18 and 23 of May, Barcelona Bridal Week will celebrate its 20th anniversary as the most notable showcase for bridal fashion, with support from the leading companies.
You can’t be visiting the most dynamic city in Europe without doing some shopping. Barcelona has everything to offer when it comes to fashion. There is a nice mix between trendy, high fashion and vintage clothing, something for everyone.
Get dressed for a crazy and trendy night out at the one of the many hip and fashionable clubs at Barceloneta beach. This is where you can spot a celebrity if you’re lucky and glance at the fashionable clientele. The nightclubs are perfectly located by the seaside right next to each other, which makes the mingling easier if you want to experience more than one club during the night. The clubs all have their own signature in style, music and atmosphere to please the discerning audience.

Unlike many other travel destinations, Barcelona makes finding accommodation simple for students and young people traveling abroad. Without age limits or expensive security deposits, young travelers can take advantage of the various types of accommodations throughout the city. Flats, hotels, and hostels exist in abundance, and whichever suits your needs can be readily available. Each ‘barrio’ or area of Barcelona contains hundreds of places to stay, and with websites such as barcelona-home.com, making reservations has never been easier.
By inputing your travel dates, your desired price range, and the type of accommodation you would like to rent, barcelona-home takes care of the rest. You will receive a list of available locations, in various districts of the city, and each with its own benefits and drawbacks. It is then up to you to decide which suits your needs and desires and finalize your rental.
When it comes to choosing where to stay on vacation, Barcelona has as many options as anywhere. Hotels, apartments, hostels, and pensions exist in abundance throughout the city and its surroundings, providing options for every type of traveler. It is up to you to decide which is better, staying in a hotel or other temporary accommodation, or renting an apartment?
Standing there, with a glass of wine in my hand and some fancy music in my ears. Reviewing the passing day and just being happy about this unique moment, with the stars above and some warm air around you. This is the best mental image of the end of a perfect day in Barcelona.
In two weeks, on the 4th September we will once again have the possibility to listen to a super special concert.
Today I recommend something extra special for families when visiting Barcelona this summer. It takes place on Tibidabo, a mountain behind Barcelona and the highest point of the city. The mountain hosts a great amusement park. There are numbers of different attractions for everyone, as well as restaurants and a souvenir shop.
If you visit Barcelona, make sure that your visit will be a great mix of fun, shopping, relaxing on the beach and
Noisy engines, exhaust fumes in the air and fast runabouts…this weekend is truly a men’s weekend…Friday the 4th September is going to be the free training, the qualifying and night training sessions.
On the 6th September once again there is a fancy concert right here in Barcelona. Status Quo is an English rock band formed in 1967, and they will be in Barcelona after they have had 2 more stops in Spain (Madrid and Bilbao).
