You can’t be visiting the most dynamic city in Europe without doing some shopping. Barcelona has everything to offer when it comes to fashion. There is a nice mix between trendy, high fashion and vintage clothing, something for everyone.

For the really fancy shopping you should visit Passieg de Gracia, the Gaudi Street. Here are the top brands located like Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Dolce Gabbana, all dedicated to the fastidious shopper whose credit card may suffer a stroll along this boulevard.

If you continue down this street you find yourself in Placa Catalunya, a big square with shopping malls around it. The grand shopping mall El Corte Inglés(http://www.elcorteingles.es/) can’t be missed and contains all you need from fashion, electronics, interior design to perfumes, shoes and accessories etc.  In this area lies also another big mall called FNAC, which has all you need in multimedia products, and Sephora a shop to all women’s delight. Sephora has skincare, makeup, perfumes and all you need to get pampered.

Another amazing shopping districts is Born, the old part Barcelona with its bohemic charm and charismatic atmosphere. Here you will find a mix of local designers, vintage and the newest trends. Lately it’s become a very popular place for shopping and the narrow alleys are crowded in the weekends.

Get up early if you want to have time to discover what Barcelona has to offer in shopping and don’t forget to take a break once in a while and enjoy a coffee or lunch at one of the many restaurants or bakeries.  Sit and gaze at the sun while planning your next step.

Get dressed for a crazy and trendy night out at the one of the many hip and fashionable clubs at Barceloneta beach. This is where you can spot a celebrity if you’re lucky and glance at the fashionable clientele. The nightclubs are perfectly located by the seaside right next to each other, which makes the mingling easier if you want to experience more than one club during the night. The clubs all have their own signature in style, music and atmosphere to please the discerning audience.

To make it a night to remember why not start with a dinner at Shoko(http://www.shoko.biz/), restaurant and lounge club, which is created based on the feng-shui concept and includes different areas for different tastes. They have two VIP zones, area bamboo, chill out and a terrace by the sea for creating a unique experience. This is a great place to start the evening. Enjoy a dinner with Asian and Mediterranean food before it turns into a sophisticated nightclub with the latest music in house and rnb.

Since Shoko closes around three o’clock you might be in the mood to continue the glamorous party. Most people go to the after-party at Opium Mar(http://www.opiummar.com/home.html), just a few steps to the right from Shoko. This is one of the most famous and fancy clubs in Barcelona and here you listen to the best house music in town to keep you going until 6.00 am in the morning.  If your wallet is up to it why not make it even more spectacular and reserve a table in one of the VIP zones and get comfortable in the sofa overlooking the wild dancing crowd below.  The cost for a table varies from 150 to 200 Euros including a bottle of liquor of choice.

My accommodation is near the city center, and is only a 5 minute ride on the metro to the center. The metro is right next to the apartment, which makes it easy to get around town. It is a safe area, with many restaurants in the Eixample district. It is a very comfortable accommodation with four bedrooms.

Unlike many other travel destinations, Barcelona makes finding accommodation simple for students and young people traveling abroad. Without age limits or expensive security deposits, young travelers can take advantage of the various types of accommodations throughout the city. Flats, hotels, and hostels exist in abundance, and whichever suits your needs can be readily available. Each ‘barrio’ or area of Barcelona contains hundreds of places to stay, and with websites such as barcelona-home.com, making reservations has never been easier. By inputing your travel dates, your desired price range, and the type of accommodation you would like to rent, barcelona-home takes care of the rest. You will receive a list of available locations, in various districts of the city, and each with its own benefits and drawbacks. It is then up to you to decide which suits your needs and desires and finalize your rental.

Whether you desire a luxurious apartment, a simple loft, or a bed in a hotel or hostel, Barcelona is the place to stay. With the correct accommodation, you will be able to fully enjoy all this incredible city has to offer, without worrying about cancellations, incorrect information, or extra fees. Using an agent guarantees you will get what you ask for, and in turn what you pay for, and will ensure your satisfaction. A comfortable, convenient place to stay is the first step in planning the ideal vacation, and with Barcelona-home, that step is made simple.

When it comes to choosing where to stay on vacation, Barcelona has as many options as anywhere. Hotels, apartments, hostels, and pensions exist in abundance throughout the city and its surroundings, providing options for every type of traveler. It is up to you to decide which is better, staying in a hotel or other temporary accommodation, or renting an apartment?

The duration of your vacation is a key determining factor in the decision over where to stay during your time in Barcelona. If staying for just a few days, a long weekend, or any time less than a week, staying in a hotel, hostel, or pension may be advisable. These locations offer the comfort only a hotel can provide, with no stress about locking up when you leave, a friendly concierge at your beck and call, and a built-in cleaning service. With Barcelona´s many hotels, there are options for those traveling on a budget, those wishing to splurge, and all of the travelers in between. Depending on the number of stars, the level of comfort, style, and luxury changes accordingly.

If your stay will last days, weeks, months, or even years, then an apartment may be the best option for you. Barcelona-Home offers apartments of varying sizes in districts throughout the entire city, allowing you to choose the capacity, location, and style of your accommodation. If you are a night owl, a flat near Las Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya, or Port Olimpico may be perfect for your stay. If a more tranquil environment fits your personality, the flats and houses scattered throughout Les Sants, close to Park Güell, or on the beach may strike your fancy. From an individual student or business traveler to a couple to a large family or group of friends traveling, Barcelona-Home has the right place for you. All you have to decide is what you want from your trip, and we can provide it!

Standing there, with a glass of wine in my hand and some fancy music in my ears. Reviewing the passing day and just being happy about this unique moment, with the stars above and some warm air around you. This is the best mental image of the end of a perfect day in Barcelona. But let me begin at the very start. After sleeping longer than you  normally do in your daily life, head off with some baguette, cheese, fruits and coffee to the Parc de la Ciutadella.

It is an incredibly beautiful park, with lots of lush green lawns, plenty of small paths, a waterfall and a pond. Simply the best place for a leisurely picnic to start the day. When you finished with breakfast stroll a little through the park and enjoy the nature and the cute little parrots which are flying throughout whole of Barcelona.

Now grab the Metro on the way to Plaza Cataluña. From there start a little stroll along Las Ramblas, in the direction of the sea. Also, occasionally go far from the Rambla along the narrow streets in the Raval and Barri Gotic districts and enjoy the flair of the Catalan metropolis. Don’t hesitate to buy a freshly-made fruit juice in La Boquería, whilst exploring the big market hall. When you arrive at the port of Barcelona just stroll along it, have a look over the nice craft market which takes place here from the beginning of July till the end of September and look for a suitable restaurant in which you want to dine in this evening. Walk until you reach the great beach of Barceloneta and rest a little in the sun or go swimming in the Mediterranean sea. Just relax a while. When the sun slowly goes down you could go to an attractive restaurant and maybe eat some Tapas and delicious Paella. Afterwards grab the metro once again and get away to where you came from in the morning, Parc de la Ciutadella. Runnning already for 12 years, annually in July and August there is one of the most emblematic and charismatic music seasons. Enjoy the best Jazz music from Barcelona for free. Standing there with a glass of wine in the hand and some fancy music on the ears….

From the 12th June to the 28th August 2009 has been taking place this years Mecal Air in the Poble Espanyol in Barcelona. Mecal Air has been created as a series of outdoor short film and sushi evenings by The International Short Film Festival of Barcelona called MECAL, and Poble Espanyol. It takes place every friday evenings from 20.00 to 24.00. From tomorrow on there are only 3 times left in this year to enjoy an exclusive chill out area where you can lay back in a hammock whilst enjoying the entertainment and Japanese bites in the fresh air. There is always a bar and with each drink you get a free sushi or you can buy a whole variety.

In the district of  Monjtuïc, Poble Espanyol lies just apart from the magic fountains. It is basically an open-air museum of architecture on the  Monjtuïc mountain. El Poble Espanyol – The Spanish Village in Barcelona is an open air museum in Barcelona with 40 handicraft shops and a number of excellent restaurants and bars. Constructed in 1929 for the Barcelona International Exhibition, Josep Puig i Cadafalch, the famous modernist Catalan architect and designer, thought up the idea. Essentially meant to represent a  town of architecture, culture from all around Spain and style, Poble Espanyol is just over 40,000m². That is around about 2500 times smaller than Barcelona city.  Ideality was a predominant point in designing this museum, with a perspective on what an ideal Spanish village would look like, with the best and most traditionally spanish characteristics rolled into one to create this architectural wonder. Over 110 buildings line many streets and squares all produced to scale.

Today the Poble Espanyol is also used for events and festivals and What’s a better way to spend a summer night than short films and sushi under the stars in Barcelona?

The best way to reach the place  is to take the bus number 13, 50 or 61 or the PM bus.

In two weeks, on the 4th September we will once again have the possibility to listen to a super special concert.

Coldplay, the English alternative rock band, formed in London in 1998, with Chris Martin as the lead singer, touch down in Barcelona as part of their tour to present their latest album, “Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends”. I can remember when the album came out last summer because I bought it on the first day and heard it week after week, day after day, because it was so fantastic and it has had been a very successful album.

When I heard that the band is just going to play in Barcelona, when I will be there, I was immediately convinced with the need to see them live. But unfortunately the tickets are too expensive for my limited wallet…

Coldplay achieved worldwide fame with the release of their single “Yellow”, followed by their debut album, Parachutes (2000).They have sold over 55 million albums worldwide and they are one of the world’s most successful bands of the current decade. Moreover they got 24 awards between 2001 and 2009 for their great music.

Coldplay has a special relationship with Barcelona. After spending a time in the city recording part of the album which they are now presenting on their current tour. I have heard that the bells that can be heard in the song “Viva la Vida” are the bells of the Santa Maria del Mar church. I have seen the pretty little church situated in the Born area of Barcelona. It is considered to be one of the finest examples of Catalan Gothic architecture and with such an information about it and the relation to Coldplay, it is even more worth the visit to La Santa Maria del Mar.

And one more interesting thing in addition: the song that gives a name to the album (Viva la Vida) has a special connection with the city of Barcelona because it is the song that Barça’s coach used to play to motivate his players. And it seems to have worked.

In Barcelona, they have become regular performers, with this being their third visit in less than one year and this time the location of the event will be nothing less than the Olympic Stadium. Don’t miss one of the best concerts of the year and buy your (unfortunately expensive) ticket here. I wish you an amazing evening!

The perfect solution for a Sunday afternoon: craft market in Barceloneta. The exhibition has been showing since the 13th July 2009 and lasts till the end of September. In between this duration of time Barcelona’s inhabitants and visitors are able to amble along the craft market in Barcelona at Plaça de l’Odissea,in front of  the Maremagnum shopping centre.

Being shown are the works of different craftsmen, carpenters, mosaic designers, ceramists, weavers, jewellers, glaziers, inlaid designers and many more. Craftsmen’s skills will be exhibited live every day at their stands and if you are searching for an exclusive souvenir or a small present for your family or friends go ahead and look at it. It is sure that all the stuff is 100% hand made and of a good quality as their products are all been certified as hand-made products by the Centre d’Artesania of the Generalitat de Catalunya. Every Sunday between 5pm and 8pm you have the chance to observe the crafts men and as each and everyone of them use their own skills. You can observe some different techniques how to make the products, and you can involve your children in some interesting workshop for children as well, held every Sunday afternoons.

Last weekend I went out of town with a friend of mine. Vic was our destination.  We thought that Vic would be a cosy village, it sounded like this in my guide book, but we learned that Vic is the capital of Comarca Ausona. It is located about 70km north of Barcelona, at a height of approximately 484m above sea level and has about 38,964 inhabitants and an area of 30,92 kilometers². The name of this historic city was Vich, identified in the prehistoric age of the place in the former Catalan spelling. The city has a neoclassical cathedral, many churches and many different markets.

By train, we set off from the Plaza Catalunya, which was unfortunately a bit confusing. Once there and “very well” equipped without a map, we found a city plan on the square outside the train station. Since there was no market shown on the map, I took the lead and off we went along the main street and we had success. At first we arrived at the market square, the Plaça Major. We were walking around and found some other markets. Mostly there were only clothes, fruit, toys and other things for everyday use but unfortunately no pottery products, which we would have liked to bring as souvenirs for our families. In a side street of the Plaça Major, we actually found a tourist information centre, which even had a city map for us.

We briefly paused and studied the map and allowed ourselves a nice cafe and some tapas. Fortified, we went into the 2nd round. As it was already after 1pm the markets were dismantled and calm was returning to the city. With hardly any people on the streets it was perfect to look at everything around there. We started with the old town hall and went on to numerous churches, convention houses and the cathedral. This impressive church´s interior almost made me faint as it is all in black and gold and it really moves you! That was not everything we saw there! Unfortunately, we could not see much from the inside, as the siesta was until 4pm and the tour had not yet resumed. The temple opens its doors only at 6pm and sadly  we had to take our train back home at this time, because the journey is about 1,5 hours. Exhausted from all the impressions and experiences we went back towards Barcelona and thought that the trip had been well worth it!

Today I recommend something extra special for families when visiting Barcelona this summer. It takes place on Tibidabo, a mountain behind Barcelona and the highest point of the city. The mountain hosts a great amusement park. There are numbers of different attractions for everyone, as well as restaurants and a souvenir shop.

In the Teatre del cel del Tibidabo (open-air theatre) you can still watch Tibi, the elf of Collserola, at her performance, until the 13.09.09. The program is shown in the heart of the theme park and it is designed for children (from 2 years old). It is the story of Tibi, the elf who lives out in the Collserol mountains. What is special about this performance is that it is interactive and often involves the young audience becoming players in the story. Therefore it wouldn’t be boring and those who  want to have fun could even spend the rest of the time in the amusement park with the various attractions which offer something for everyone no matter age or preference. A show lasts 20 minutes and starts always on the hour from 5pm to 8pm, Wednesday to Sunday.

Another reason to go here is to visit the beautiful church on top of the mountain with a lift that takes you up to the highest tower. The 360 degree panoramic view is amazing, you can see the whole city all the way to the sea and even see the small towns and suburbs on the other side of the mountain.

The most comfortable way to get there would be with the T2 – the Tibidabo bus. It departs from Plaza Cataluña every hour and costs € 2.50 one way. It is definitely worth it, as this is such a beautiful part of Barcelona and you and your children will definitely have a great experience!

A trip to Barcelona is not complete without a visit to La Boqueria on Las Ramblas. The Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, usually called as  La Boqueria, is a large fresh produce market in Barcelona. The market has every fruit imaginable, as well as fresh juices, which are my favorite. They sell everything from vegtables, to eggs, fresh seafood, meat and candy. All the fruits are beautifully colored it is even worth only to observe it. All the products are neatly displayed on the stands. The best time to go is during the morning, when all the stands are stocked with food. The market can be quite busy during the day and overcrowded, so make sure to watch your belongings.  The food is reasonably priced and is actually cheaper than the super markets. The stands in the front are a bit more pricier than the stands in the back.  There are also some restaurants in the market, they serve freshly prepared food with items from the market. The market dates back to 1217, when tables were installed nead the door of the city to sell meat. In 1470, pigs were sold at the market. However the market was not built and recognized until 1836-1840. Like most things in Barcelona, La Boqueria is closed on Sundays. The market is located on Las Ramblas infront of the metro stop Liceu (green line). For more information you can visit their website here.

If you visit Barcelona, make sure that your visit will be a great mix of fun, shopping, relaxing on the beach and sightseeing. There are some points of interest that are necessary to be seen, starting with Las Ramblas. It is a long, pedestrian friendly road that stretches from the famous Plaça Catalunya to the Christopher Columbus statue near the Port. And if you walk through these green avenues you can definitely feel the vibe of the Barcelona character. Not having seen Las Ramblas whilst having been in Barcelona means you have not really been in Barcelona. Right next to Las Ramblas is the large and impressive marketplace, La Boqueria, which is filled with colourful exotic tropical fruits and vegetables, a variety of meats and seafood, cheese and eggs. Also a must see is the cathedral of Barcelona. The best time to go there is Sunday morning. You can visit the glorious monument and around 12′o’ clock the old folk start their folkdance, La Sadana. It is worth seeing! As is the little mountain Montjuïc which is 173 metres tall, the highest point being the Castell de Montjuïc. It was not built for defence, more as a symbolic watch tower over Barcelona. From there you really have the best view of Barcelona! The Montjuïc is a great leisure complex, filled with museums and generally a nice place to chill. If you enter the mountain through the Plaza España, you can see the main entrance to the world exhibition in 1929 and to the Olympic games in 1992. If you then look straight ahead you can observe the “magic fountain”. Every weekend it is kind of a wonderful fairy tale of moving water jets, illuminated in shifting shades and hues, synchronised with light and music…go there on the weekend, it is starting its program around 21:30 and it is a must-see in Barcelona.

As if Barcelona was not interesting enough already, one can be lost in a world of interesting stories when retelling the history of many of the city’s tourist attractions.  This is certainly true for Casa Milà, better known as La Pedrera. Casa Mila is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is now owned by Caixa Catalunya. It can be found on the crossing of Provença and Passeig de Gracia. As with several of the unique parts of the city, this building is also a world-reknowned work of Antonio Gaudí, the famous Catalan architect.  Construction for this began in 1906, when it was completed about 6 years after. It is very interesting to stroll through the museum and let the audio guide tell you about the life of Gaudi, his practising methods and his works in the city. The next point of view has become an emblem of Barcelona has become a day and attracts hundreds of tourists. A church that holds a precious and unique spot in the city of Barcelona, is a must see for visitors to the city: La Sagrada Familia.

There are even more attractions. Visit the Camp Nou, Europe´s biggest football stadium and don’t forget to relax on the beach of Barceloneta! With so many things to do, you will never forget your time in Barcelona!

Noisy engines, exhaust fumes in the air and fast runabouts…this weekend is truly a men’s weekend…Friday the 4th September is going to be the free training, the qualifying and night training sessions. The preparing of the longest night time car race of the year will take place under artificial light and thus makes it even more spectacular. In this year the Circuit of Catalunya is going to host the 12th 24-hour Automobile (24 Hores d’Automobilisme in Catalan). The traditional endurance test will start at 12 am on Saturday at midday. The race will be held at the FIA Grand Prix circuit, which has a length of 4655km and a RACC chicane. The teams consist of 3 to 4 riders in each car. The race has free entrance and everyone who is interested can watch it and cheer wildly! I wish you loads of fun and an exciting time, because at the speeds that the they will be travelling, it is bound to be fun. To give you a hint where it will kick off, click here.  For more information about the Circuit de Catalunya you can click here.

On the 6th September once again there is a fancy concert right here in Barcelona.  Status Quo is an English rock band formed in 1967, and they will be in Barcelona after they have had 2 more stops in Spain (Madrid and Bilbao). On their current tour “Picture 40 years of hits” they once again show their fans their special music which is characterised by a distinctive boogie line. The group was founded, first under the name “The Scorpions”, by bassist Alan Lancaster and guitarist Francis Rossi in 1962. Then they changed their name into “The Spectres”, but only in the year 1967 they called themselves “The Status Quo”, which was changed in 1970 in “Status Quo”.

Their history and music in the last 40 years has been hugely successful. It is no wonder that they now inspire generations upon generations of people. They reached over 22 Top Ten Hits in UK and they recorded more than 60 chart hits. So, if you are partial to this special kind of rock music, go on Sunday evening in the Sala Razzmatazz to share with some of their thousand other fans the possibility to see those old hard rock artists live! The concert will start at 7pm. Tickets are on the Status Quo Homepage for about 40€.
