As it is a public holiday, the city is pretty much shut down. Most shops, banks and offices are going to be closed. However, in such a vibrant city as Barcelona, you won’t have any difficulties in finding ways how to spend the day. By the way, the main tourist sites as well as bars and restaurants, especially in a city centre will stay opened. If you are in Barcelona’s city centre you hopefully will see many different demonstrations and parades led by trade unionists. The purpose of them is to point out the historical importance of this day. The demonstrations usually take place in Via Laietana, Passeig de Gracia, Placa Sant Jaume and Passeig Sant Joan.
